Little by little! As most of you saw on facebook, Jared and I took the big "preparing for baby step" and bought our nursery furniture. The search for furniture started a few weeks ago when we decided to move the guest room into the office and make the guest room the baby room. We had a free weekend when Jared was home and I supervised as Jared did all the grunt work. We then looked to our Baby Bargains book for the Good, Better, and Best buys for furniture. I didn't want to overwhelm Jared with heading to Babies R Us (an hour and a half away anyway... so not really worth the trip to just look), but found a local store (an hour north!) that carried baby everything. This store has most things baby and is more of a boutique than big chain store. I figured we would start there and work our way to bigger stores if we needed to. This was an adventure Jared wasn't quite expecting, I don't think. We walked in and WHAM! an everything baby wake up call! I started Jared off slow into the world of baby in hopes that he wouldn't change his mind about the adventures to come - there really is no going back now. We looked at car seats and I explained the different ones - one holds more weight, one holds less, one has better safety ratings, one is for forward facing. We browsed the strollers seeing the different kinds, but thankfully not needing one! (Back in September I got in with other ladies for a group discount at a local bike store that had received their shipment later than expected and wouldn't be selling these until summer when a new model would already be out.) Next up, Pack n Plays! Then comes the discussion of "why do you need one of these in your room when the nursery is just down the hallway?" I agreed to agree :) that Jared didn't know what he was talking about and why did he care anyway he wouldn't be there. I could do anything I wanted ! :) After perusing the big items we made our way to the goal items we came to look for: FURNITURE! There were several cribs from the manufacturer Munire that we came to like. I liked one, Jared liked another, and then a third we both could live it. Because this was a big purchase we went back home and I did more research. The manufacturer we were looking into buying also makes Baby Cache at Babies R Us and is about the same quality for about $50 cheaper. Babies R Us also takes 12 to 15 weeks to get their furniture in and won't deliver to us because we are too far to deliver and too close to ship!? Makes sense?! We bit the bullet, picked up the phone and placed our order for the furniture from Munire. We chose the Lexington Collection Convertible Crib (and convertible rails for the full size bed), 6 Drawer Dresser, and Nightstand (Jared said we had to have one) in Espresso. We were told it would take up to 6 weeks to arrive at the store, but it only took 2 weeks! Jared and I picked the furniture up and spent the rest of the afternoon making a room for our baby to come home to. Little by little it is coming together... baby room furniture, stroller, and car seat*. Now to find out what we are having to add some colorful accents to the room. May 10th!
My mom wanted to buy our car seat for us and suggested the same type my sister has. We picked out the Chicco KeyFit 30 in Midori so traveling would be made easier because they would already have a base for us and that would be one less thing we would need to bring with us!
